The responsibilities for and impacts of delivering net zero, a just transition for workers and a secure supply of industrial resources transcend sectors, jurisdictions, and scales of policy.
In their recent report, Decarbonising Home Energy Through Behaviour Change, the International Public Policy Observatory (IPPO) at UCL review international evidence on green purchase decisions, and argue that the UK needs to change tack and focus on interventions that will actively work toward changing behaviour.
Policy interventions focused on behavioural and human factors, and the contexts and systems that shape these factors, are likely to increase the likelihood of consumers making green purchases
Use storytelling; be honest about systemic change; invest in communicating; and avoid binaries: these are all key recommendations for organising successful society-wide conversations for the transition to Net Zero from research by the International Public Policy Observatory (IPPO).
